While down in the Outer Banks of North Carolina the Cheese and I sat in a very enjoyable bar called Lucky 12 Tavern, and watched as two people across the red bar top played a bar video game called Monkey Bash. At the time we didn’t know what the game was called, all we knew was that we wanted to play it.
Seriously an enjoyable place.
So the next night we found the two bar stools closest to the video game console open, and we started playing – four plays for a dollar. We were in heaven.
The basic concept of the game is that you begin as a clown wielding what looks to be a bowling pin. You (as the clown) then get to bash a monkey that is jumping in front of you in the most tempting of ways on a trampoline inside a big top. Then the monkey flies out of the big top (if you hit it good) and then you as the player keep trying to get the monkey to further extend its distance from the initial trampoline by making it slip on banana peels, ride up off of jumps, and jump on more trampolines.
It was seriously lots of fun, and I while I never broke a thousand points on the console in the Outer Banks, Cheese and I did leave the place with seven of top ten scores.Â
In leaving the Outer Banks the Cheese and I were worried that we would never be able to find the Monkey Bash game in NYC since we’ve never actually noticed these games before.
Then on Friday night we were at a place called Finnerty’s on 2nd Ave off of 14th – which is a bar (along with the place next door to it) that I have always walked by and thought “those look like the worst bars in NYC – next to Nevada Smiths”.Â
Magic happened Friday night – MAGIC!
Thisplace Finnerty’s has Hoegaarden on tap, and the Monkey Bash game – I almost instantly fell in lust with the bar that I had always been too ignorant to go into – Finnerty’s.Â
This version of the game console has had better better players playing it, with the highest scores all being over a thousand and the highest being held by Dieter with a 1247. I was going to have to bring my A game to get in the top list.
Who could resist a game that starts out like this?
Clowns bashing monkeys – lowest common denominator of fun!
Watching monkey’s fly, classic.
Who’s that with the seventh highest score up there? Me! Yes, I brought my A game, and will still need to do some more training to beat out Dieter.

Ah Lucky 12s. How I miss thee.
Thank the Lord for Monkey Bash at Finnertys.
is there somewhere you can download and play this game on line . I played it for the 1st time last night and had high score 1176
It was up online, but I no longer see it being working. Keep those quarters handy!
I think that is an exclusive game to that magic touch bar game system, but it may be available, I have been looking for it all over too, but you can buy one of those systems online for quite a bit of pocket change. Or at least if I remembe right.
