The other day I wrote a post that is linked here, which stated that we could all take a step back and do our part to save the Earth and ourselves in the process, and last night I actually did my part.
Last night I enrolled in a Con Edison alternative energy program – AND I COULDN’T BE HAPPIER!
I decided to purchase all of my energy from only one source at a fixed rate through August of next year.
My source?
WIND!
In going through this process I found out that there are some hidden false truths about this wind or green energy program that Con Edison is providing.
MYTH: In order to get green (wind) energy I would have to pay 2.5 cents more per KWH than standard (nuclear & coal) generated energy.
FACT: I will actually be paying less per KWH with wind power than my current or shall I now say my former way of obtaining nuclear and coal energy.
FACT: I will still be obtaining my energy directly from Con Edison.
FACT: By purchasing green (wind) energy power my electric bill is not subjected to the New York State Sales Tax of 4% on my monthly bill.
FACT: I had recently been buying my energy from standard sources (nuclear and coal) at a cost of 20.1111 cent per KWH. I will now be purchasing all of my wind energy at the fixed rate of only 17.10 cents per KWH through August of 2008. That’s a saving a 3 cents per KWH on top of saving my entire monthly bill from being taxed at 4% each month.
FACT: By purchasing my wind power I am helping save all of us.
BASICS TO KNOW: While 3 cents per KWH might not sound like alot of money, that 3 cent per KWH savings is actually a 15% saving per KWH. Plus, I don’t have a 4% NYS tax attached to my electric bill. Now that’s a good deal in my book.
If you live in the NYC area, and would like more information on what amount of money can save each month on your electric bill, then please click on the Con Edison Green Power Main – HERE!
If you don’t live in the NYC area, then I strongly suggest that you contact your local electricity provider and find out how much you will actually save per month using wind power – look at your current bill, and look at what the cost of wind power would be - FIND OUT THE FACTS!
* While the price of wind energy remains the same price for the duration of my contract, the price of coal and nuclear energy varies in price per month.
