Where Squirrels Go To Die…

All our life we’ve wondered how, with a city that has so many squirrels around, we hardly ever see a dead one.  In fact, besides the smushed in the middle of a street death by car, we can remember seeing exactly one dead squirrel in a park, and that was in the late 1980s.

That is until yesterday, when we found another one…accidentally… we happened to be walking along the uptown side of 10th Street, just off of 1st Avenue, when we spotted something hanging out of a tree…

“I’m sorry, I just need to take a picture of this, it’s to good to pass up…”

“Ugh, that dead squirrel doesn’t have a head….”  Our friend said.

“It doesn’t?  Are you sure?”

“Seriously, no head…”

And there you go.  Sometimes a squirrel will die in a tree, fall lifelessly to the ground, and in the process get hung up in the tree to decompose…weird…

On a sidenote, as a concerned citizen, and animal lover living in NYC, despite the squirrel lacking a head, we did check for any sort of vital signs, and sadly, this squirrel is in fact – DEAD!
