Dying By Way Of Bank

I fear that I will one day die a horrible death at this office job and that would definitely not be good, or even remotely noble.
For months they’ve been testing the public address system of my office building, coming on numerous times a day sometimes to say that it is just a test and to ignore all of the emergency lights and sounds that may or may not go on.
On top of that the city has drills every couple of weeks at my building where between one and two dozen fire engines and ladders arrive at my building along with 50 or so police vehicles.
All this means leads me to feel as though that they should know what they’re doing in case of emergency.
Then there’s today, there were numerous clicks of the public address system and no words. We were all sitting inside a building that was sitting in a fairly thick cloud.
Anyway, when I picked up my printing I heard the honking roar of a fire engine on the street. I looked out, watched it pull up in front of the building and then watched via the reflection of the building across the street as the firefighters got out of their rig rather quickly - I assumed that there was a car accident since the fire engine was pulled out and across most of the wide street.
There were a few more clicks on the PA system, and finally after another couple of more minutes went by even more clicks, until finally a man who isn’t the usual “This is a test” guy started to speak in a frantic manner.
I immediately put on my sweater and grabbed my raincoat - no letting me get stuck behind the 300lb gal in 4 inch heels on the stairs.
“This is your building fire safety warden” The guy said all out of breath with all sorts of alarms blaring to what sounds like an emergency in progress.
“The fire alarm on the 15th floor has been investigated.”
That’s all…? No, “Hey, sorry to not tell everyone that there was an emergency that had me running around like a crazy person”, nothing. What’s worse, is that this “emergency” was responded to by only one visible fire vehicle. So much for all those drills.
And yes, this is the second time in less than six months where something like this has happened to my building.
I imagine that it’s only a matter of time before a big thing happens, and all hell breaks lose one day.
