It’s Raining, It’s Pouring

When it rains, it pours.  I’ve heard that saying before, and have experienced it a handful of times throughout my life.

When I was about nine my dad who was a diabetic had too low blood sugar, made it all the way home from work to the front door, passed out and flopped down the stairs unconscious breaking bones and cutting his head up good, then, while the ambulance was in the street and paramedics were working on him a lady tried to drive up the block and past the double parked ambulance - she ended up crashing into my family car - double whammy!

When I was 22 an elderly man attacked me on the street.  I sh!t you not, a crazy Korean War veteran attacked me on the street as I walked with my then girlfriend.  I lost a good umbrella in my attempt to not punch an elderly man who was throwing wild punches at me.  Then, after a bar full of Sunday afternoon drinkers broke it up I was stalked by car (New York License # ASH 1951, if memory holds true) and the guy driving kept trying to fight me, at one point chasing me for a block on foot - he was WAY bigger than me, and full of rage - double whammy!

Now comes this week, my grandmother gets hospitalized with what they suspect is her heart on Monday, she spends 30 hours in the ER before finally getting a bed on Tuesday (whole other post), then come Tuesday evening my place loses half it’s electricity somehow.  Literally half.  The front has none, but the back is fine and dandy - double whammy!

So yeah, I took the day off, I’m home right now, waiting for electricians.  I’m not looking for sympathy, I enjoy being home; I just wanted to reflect on the whole “things come in buckets”.

Here I am, sitting here in the Tony Bennett Room, I have all my windows open, a cool breeze is flowing through, it’s all wet outside, the birds are chirping, and there’s a constant blaring of fog horns from the many ships as the enter the New York harbor that let me know that I am indeed home.

In this little bubble of a Tony Bennett Room, life is grand!

UPDATE!!!  It’s about 11:40 and before I go off to bed, I felt the need to let everyone know that I spent a couple of hours at the hospital this afternoon, and my grandma appears to be alright to me.  So don’t worry, don’t stay up all night and worry.  Get some rest kiddos!

Isn’t there a saying that bad things happen in 3’s? Hope your grandmother gets better and you enjoy your day off!

Thank you times three, and yes, there has been a third bad thing that happened in each of these raning/pouring times. I somehow blocked all of them out. The big C in the lungs of a close family friend, she had surgery on Monday.

  5. Hope your grandmother is doing better and that the electricity is on by now.

  6. It also “pours” at the hospital where I work. I’ll go into work one day and we will have about 3 patients (when we can hold 12). The next day I come in and we have all 12 patients and they are calling for us to move someone out so they can put a sicker person in their bed. Its crazy like that.

I hope your grandmother is okay and your electricity gets fixed double quick.
