Blight In Bay Ridge

by beehive on Jul.04, 2008, under Bay Ridge Bastards

I took these photos in the beginning of the summer of some local blight that has been going on for years in Bay Ridge.

blight2.jpg

The basic story is there is a nice, quiet tree lined block.  An old lady sold her modest home (now that monster three story home) that had a driveway and an piece of land next to it - a luxury within Brooklyn, enough room to have your own green space.

blight4.jpg

Well, the people that the old lady sold to are basically a bunch of pricks, and decided to illegally build a second house on the portion of the property where the open green space once was.

Not only that, but the prick owners who are building the house claim that it isn’t even their property despite the fact that they bought it and despite that there is no legal lot in between the two existing homes for them to have sold!

blight3.jpg

From what I understand from a neighbor is that the prick owners/builders bought some people off and obtained illegal permits (the buying off is hearsay) - plus there is an existing stop work order as part of 67 complaints made to the buildings department.

blight6.jpg

Thankfully a court order was issued a couple of weeks ago that said that the 60 foot walls and haphazard structure needed to be removed by July 2nd otherwise the prick owner/builder would face jail time.

Well July 2nd came and went and guess what?  It still looks exactly like this as of July 4th.

blight3.jpg

Now what gets me about the prick owner/builder is that they claim that the walls aren’t even their property, but behind the boards the fence from directly in front of their front door extends unobstructed to the half built house - clearly connecting the two!

Besides being an illegal building site it is also unsafe due to it not being properly secured - kids could easily get in between the 18 or so inch gap here.

blight7.jpg

But what gets me most about this mess is that the prick owner/builder has the nerve to demand no parking in his unused and boarded up driveway!

blight8.jpg

I’m hoping that the judge throws the guy into jail for a couple of years for this, but in reality I doubt the prick owner/builder will ever even get arrested or even have to take the walls and haphazard structure down.

New York City Justice, prove me wrong!

One has to wonder how much $$$ has greased the palms of individuals in the Buildings Dept. and whomever/wherever else that allowed this atrocity to continue for so long. It is not only a huge blight on an otherwise well-kept street of homes but must be an extremely dangerous situation for the family who has been ‘walled in’. A builder would never have installed windows on that side in the first place if his intent was ‘not’ to let in air and light not to mention exits in the event of emergency.

Makes NO sense to me why would this wacko WANT to put a house SO close even to his own home? He’s obviously put a lot of $$ into his own, then to just turn around and build a cinder-wall monstrosity/castle so close to his own home that he can practically reach over and touch it, just makes me shake my head.
I also wonder why the people to the right of him, who is walled in let the wall go up in the first place? They HAD to see there could be no way it was legal.
Funny that the wacko doesn’t claim it. If he doesn’t claim it, then I say anyone could/should come over with a wrecking ball, and take care of it. If no one owns it, then no one would care if it was knocked down, right?

The people whose home and windows were walled in have spent years and lots of their own money to stop this guy - all legally. I commend them.

As a resident on that street, neighbors are just appalled at what this lunatic has done. He has been cited by the Buildings Dept; the Health Dept; the Sanitation Dept. Yet he goes his merry way as if nothing is wrong. He is a SICK individual to do this to another human being. Not to mention how he has disrupted everyone on the street with one form of construction crew or another. Thank heavens he was finally issued a STOP WORK ORDER (there were 2 posted on his ‘construction’ fence that tore off himself; we saw him do it),so we have a little quiet for a change. We wish the walled in neighbors every success and can’t wait for the wrecking ball to arrive. While they’re at it, they should destroy that white elephant he built.

I can’t believe someone would do something like this. He seems to have no regard for anything or anyone besides himself. I hope the judge gets rid of this monstrosity once and for all. It is good they ordered him to stop work but now let’s get this ugliness taken down. I feel so bad for the neighbor on the right. I would be in jail for assault if it was my house. Good for them that they have used all legal means to get it rectified. What a beautiful street only to be ruined by this idiot.
Justice needs to prevail in this.

I’ve been watching this story unfold from Seattle for months (years?) now. This situation sheds a very negative light on the City of NY. The powers that be have allowed this building project to go too far, endangering the neighbor on the right in so many ways (the air conditioning unit that got pushed in his window and landed on the floor where his child frequently plays; cutting off legal egress to bedrooms — into what window will the fire fighter go to rescue residents? etc…) Let’s face it, anyone could do anything without rules and laws. Since the Whacko has no moral compass, the City needs to step in; they have done too little too late. It negates all the great things I’ve learned about NYC from “Carrie Bradshaw.”

Are there no REAL testicles living on that street?
Does noone have the courage to take the place down and take it to the punk when he comes there?

If you don’t have the REAL COURAGE to do something for your own neighborhood, stop whining till you do.
This little punk needs an actual beating.
STAND THE FUCK UP AND DO IT.

Everyone who lives there should pick up a rock or brick from his property and throw in through his windows.
If the cops show up, everyone can say, no sir, he/she didn’t throw anything. He/’she was with me at that time.
