Bay Ridge Gore Tour #18

This is the intersection of 88th Street and Fort Hamilton Parkway.

It does look like a sleepy intersection, however, on June 19, 2002 it was the scene of gore!

Gore by way of drunken driving off duty cop Victor Wilson.

See, on that fateful day Stefanos Kiladitis was riding his motorcycle, apparently traveling southbound along Fort Hamilton Parkway (coming towards us in this photo) at roughly 20 miles over the 40mph speed limit; while off duty cop Victor Wilson who had just enjoyed an evening of drinks and bowling was driving up 88th Street.

The two met somewhere in the middle of the intersection.  Needless to say, car versus motorcyclist usually has a car being the winner.

Stefanos Kiladitis died three days later at the hospital.

Off duty cop Victor Wilson registered a .11 on his breathalyzer test SOME 90 to 120 MINUTES AFTER the accident, and then a .01 some four hours after the accident - in other words at the time of the accident, “fit for duty” according to Sgt. Bruno Bolusi.

In the end, drunken off duty cop Victor Wilson was found not guilty of vehicular manslaughter and criminal negligence homicide - which I can reasonably see, since who had the way of a green light being the piece of reasonable doubt.

BUT!!!  Despite the breathalyzer reading above the legal limit for a very long time after the accident, Victor Wilson was also found not guilty on three counts of driving while intoxicated!

A very sad series of events through and through…
