When I recently wrote about the Red Hook Ikea I had nothing but praise for the surrounding park that Ikea built on the old docks.
In reality the very beautiful and peaceful park isn’t all that it’s cracked up to be for two reasons…
- It removed working docks that are much needed to maintain the shipping industry. These docks are highly expensive to build and nearly impossible to build at another viable location in NYC.
- The London Plane trees...
Just look at how close these young London Plane trees are planted!!!
What was the person who planted this many this close together thinking? This is only five of what looked to be scores planted tightly together.
London Plane trees easily grow to be 20 to 30 meters tall and 3 meters in circumference.
These poor young trees are roughly 15 feet apart from one another as it is now - they will have no choice but to fight each other in a battle called, Survival of the Fittest!
WTG Ikea!
