This is the rather bland and sleepy looking Best Western Gregory Hotel on 5th Avenue and 84th Street.

As a kid I remember it being a burnt out shell of a building that had a dumpster sitting outside of it for years.  When it finally reopened as a hotel a guy that I went to Pre-k and Kindergarten with who has/had? a coke problem got a job there - just his presence made it all look all the more shady to me.

It was here in this refurbished hotel and within last year three people met their untimely end.

On December 3, 2007 David Diaz was stabbed to death in one of the rooms by his girlfriend.

Three months later in February 2008 Paul Mento was found dead -  in a bathtub with duct tape wrapped around his mouth.  The medical examiner didn’t find any defensive wounds on Mento and labeled the death a suicide by way of asphyxiation.

I call bullsh!t on the Paul Mento medical examiner ruling.

Then on April 25, 2008 a woman committed suicide in an undisclosed way in one of the the Gregory Hotel rooms.

I don’t see how anyone can enjoy their stay there…
