I swung past the Green Church to capture the open air while it lasts until they built a giant ugly condo building in its place.
At the end of the day it really is just a cool structure.
While taking photos I was stopped by a local resident who asked what was happening to the church. I told her that they were tearing it down to build condos – she gasped and was shocked to learn this. I wanted to find out what rock she has been living under.
She and I both agreed that it was a shame that the church couldn’t have been converted into apartments much like they did to a bunch of churches in Brooklyn Heights.
And for those wondering who you should call when you want to tear down places that are listed on the New York State and National Registers of Historic Places, call Cavalier Construction Services.
But hey, what better place to knock down the historical Bay Ridge United Methodist Church than by going to the Bay Ridge United Methodist Church Corner!!!
Isn’t that great?!?! They renamed the corner so that they know which church they want to tear down!
The only thing that I can think of that could possibly save the Green Church would be if an endangered species was found to be living on the grounds of the Church.
Does anyone know much about birds? I think that I spotted a woodpecker, and this is a long shot…is this an endangered woodpecker?
More shots taken on October 4, 2008 of the Green Church and the woodpecker are after the jump.
