I Hate NYC #22 Anti Union Construction

Union workers came about after years of abuse by rich old tycoons many decades ago.  Nowadays a union still tries their best to protect their members/workers while providing the community that they work in with the best possible service.

Sure there are some poorly run unions out there, and at the same time nothing is perfect and the majority of unions are what is best for the city.

People in NYC (who most of the time grew up someplace else) seem to have forgotten this fact and think that unions are no longer necessary - particularly trade unions that work construction.

They feel as though unions only allow workers to do little or nothing at too high a pay rate which causing the price of apartment to get ballooned out of proportion with what it is worth.

They feel so strongly about this that they would rather non union workers build new buildings - this due to the assumption that non union workers are as good as union members and are also nowhere near as costly to hire/use.

With these assumptions they feel as though apartments would become affordable once again - these people are ignorant beyond belief.

They fail to realize is that if you were to cut the cost of building an apartment down, the price of the apartment for the first time buyer wouldn’t fall in relation to the cost of building the new construction.  The apartments would still sell for whatever the market rates are - which is still for the most part unaffordable for most.

Boo to the union haters!
