The NYC Marathon

I watched the NYC Marathon yesterday from 87th and 1st on the Upper East Side yesterday, and had a blast.

I can’t quite place why, but having some alcohol inside you and screaming your lungs out at random people by whatever name is written on their shirts to keep on running is really, really fulfilling.

Everyone competes in the marathon for different reasons - it’s something that I have no desire to complete, but it’s fun to watch none the less - here are some shots.

Before I forget, marathon watching is not just for people, dogs love it too!

There were several things about marathon runners that nobody on the sidelines was quite able to fully understand…such as why put your name out there for everyone to scream, only to then blast your iPod so that you cannot hear anyone or acknowledge anyone who cheers for you?

I’m talking to you, Gunn Man!

And why bother to multitask while running a marathon that you’re trying to have a great time in?

Oh but she’s not the only one, a “husky” runner was eating ice cream while running!

Then there are the runners who are dressed up in costume. Costumes appear as though they would only add to the discomfort in running 26.2 miles - but it absolutely makes for the marathon spectating to be all the more fun - but why add such self discomfort to the run?

Case in point (best costume of that I saw)…
