Death And Taxes

There are two things in life – death, and taxes!

Well, the tax man is trying to put me in an early grave this year.

Let us retrace our steps…

  1. We successfully read the greedy market and had bought and sold stock in an oil trust.
  2. Found out that said oil trust did crazy new (to us) things to our taxes; requiring new pamphlets and forms to be completed.
  3. Think that you owe $3,000+ to the tax men.
  4. Send a check to cover your taxes along with necessary forms to file for an extension.
  5. Review tax forms and locate the mistake – realize that you should have gotten back money from NYS – which is now added to the money that was paid with the legally filed extension.
  6. Have NYS Department of Finance request yet more paperwork even though everything was fully explained on the telephone.
  7. Comply with NYS Department of Finance request and resubmit said new paperwork within the requested time frame.
  8. Get F*CKED by the USPS and several stamps worth of postage – causing a delay past the requested time frame.
  9. Resubmit taxes yet again along with extra extra extra postage.
  10. Receive a check in the mail on December 08, 2008 for $146.00 instead of the actual amount owed – over $3,200!!!

So yeah, I’m unemployed and completely getting f*cked by New York State!

Internet, I could use a hug!

  1. Something similar happened to me. I e filed- but apparently the e file never went through and I never got an e mail telling me that. I would have never even known if I hadn’t been for the fact that I was enraged over that fact that I hadn’t received my stimulus check. Turns out, you cant get a stimulus check if you never file and apparently, I never filed according to the stupid e-file program I used. Even though it appeared to have gone through. Oops. Happens to the best of us. :o )
