Back in March I wrote a piece about some of the annoyances of having a teenage neighbor who enjoys smoking pot. You can read that post by clicking here.

Unfortunately the pot smoke entering my place has continued and I still hold the same annoyances of said smoke.
Thankfully he has mostly ditched smoking inside his kitchen which has a window facing the shared courtyard on his own accord.
That said, since the weather is now warm he has been enjoying sitting on the top step of the stoop to smoke joints. His sitting and smoking at the top of the stoop allows for the smoke to go directly through my open windows and all throughout my apartment…which does not make me a happy person.
I personally don’t care that he smokes pot on his stoop or in his apartment, but when it comes inside my place I care – especially since there are ways to not have the smoke escape his apartment and especially due to the fact that there are plenty of places for him to smoke up in the neighborhood where he won’t be bothered or busted by the cops.
Anyway, Monday afternoon I smelled his smoke wafting through my place. I walked about my place and identified that the smoke was coming from the street.
I opened the front door, saw him on his stoop and discreetly walked over – barefoot and all.
“Hi, I’m Eric. I live next door.” I said as I extended my hand until he realized that I required a handshake.
“Do you live here?”
“Oh yeah. I do.” He replied quietly.
“Good. Can you do me a favor and not smoke pot here?”
“Oooooh. Sure. No problem.”
“Thanks.”
And that was it. He put out the joint and stopped smoking. Very simple.
His face had the look of “OMG people actually know what pot smells like and my smoking was noticeable.”
I wish I had done this months ago, but had I done it months ago I might not have done it in such a friendly way…so I’m glad that it lingered for the right moment to get it right.
Hopefully he will be much more discreet about where and how he smokes while his parents aren’t home.
Most potheads are more courteous than you think. Rather than going crazy over it you should have just done your part as a neighbor and voiced your concerns.
Ummm… the whole point of this post was the fact that we voiced our concerns to our neighbor.
