Coolness!!!

With it being summer, heat and humid in NYC is to the point that one must bath twice a day and then cover themselves in baby powder to stay fresh one always wonders what’s cooler than being cool?  ICE COLD!  (And being a spider in the middle of a spectacular web)

I found this guy had made a net spanning several feet which blocked to the back of my garden.  It attached itself to some evergreens, some stakes that mark my young blueberry bush, my Montauk Daisies and my compost bin.

From the looks of this photo the spider wasn’t even done making that spectacular web and it already caught something and wrapped it up…TOTAL COOLNESS!!!

Eyal Podell Interview

Yesterday I sat down with Eyal Podell whom you might recognize from ’24′ and ‘The Young and the Restless’ to discuss the new ABC show he’s on called, ‘Defying Gravity’ which co-stars Ron Livingston.

The Italian Lawn

I spotted a fine example of a classic Brooklyn “Italian Lawn” on 68th Street between 3rd and 4th Avenue in Brooklyn yesterday.

A heavy layer of concrete, a mish-mash of polished stone and there you have it!  THE ITALIAN LAWN!!!

Bay Ridge Fire!!!

Last night there was a four alarm fire at the corner of 68th Street and 3rd Avenue in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn.

The top floor appears to have been gutted, with fire damage leaving big holes in the roof and water damage to everything underneath.  All of the residents are now homeless.

ABC News is reporting that the fire started in the Sunnydale Deli in the ground floor, but based off of the soot, the fire appears to have been mainly in the top floor.

Thankfully, despite people having smelled smoke for nearly 20 minutes before 911 was notified, nobody was killed in the fire.  23 firefighters were injured while fighting the blaze, 9 of them were taken to the hospital.

Local City Councilman Vincent Gentile (short man in middle) was at the scene along with members of the Office of Emergency Management, NYPD, and I assume the Department of Buildings.

Hopefully the building can be salvaged and that it won’t need to be torn down and replaced by a cheap and ugly box.

UPDATE!!!  Two cats that lived on the top floor of this building have not been accounted for since the fire.  They are missing and their owner would love to get them back safe and sound.

Both cats are grayish.

If you have any info as to what happened to the cats or if you spot them please leave a comment here or email me – beehivehairdresser <at> hotmail.com

BBQ Alaskan Halibut!!!

The summer of 2009 appears to be going down as the summer of the BBQ for me.

I recently made this DELICIOUS dish!

Alaskan Halibut and bruschetta from the grill and a yummy artichoke & crab meat salad!
