Seagull Attack!!!

Our visit to Alcatraz back in May was smack dab in the middle of the seagull nesting season.
This meant that portions of the island were closed off to the general public out of fears that seagulls would attack people who were too close to nests. However, while on Alcatraz we witnessed a special tour given to members of the U.S. Coast Guard.
We learned that they meant business when they said in that you shouldn’t mess around in the closed off areas or disturb a nesting seagull. The group had to walk up a narrow set of stairs that had a seagull nesting directly at the top that they had to carefully skirt around.
That seagull did NOT appreciate the group wanting to walk by and kept swooping in for dive bomb attacks on the group.
And for your own safety, your only defense from a seagull attack is to put your arm up over your head while yelling, NO GULL!!!
