We recently started seeing a bunch of signs advertising the fairly new Century 21 parking lot attached to many of the lamp posts on the surrounding blocks.

They appear to be private signs that were not issued or approved by the State or City of New York — meaning that neither the State nor City of New York is pulling in fees for said signs. The signs hang in public — on public lamp posts — displaying an advertisement for a private business. A private business that charges people to use the private parking lot.
All in all, sounds shifty and potentially dangerous to us — who knows if the bolts used are ones that meet any sort of safety requirement that is necessary for a sign to hang in the wind for an extended amount of time.
But hey, maybe it is all kosher and not illegal — if bestiality is legal in Florida, anything is possible.

Century 21 has its own parking lot??? What real estate did they take over? Man things have changed since I’ve left!
Leemark Lanes and the empty adjacent lot next to it. 88th Street between 4th and 5th Ave.
The bowling alley is gone? When did that happen???
The lot opened last year and the bowling alley closed a year or so before that. The bowling alley owners also owned the building, so it wasn’t too big of a deal.
