The corner building that housed the old Short Rib’s and Loft restaurants is in the final days of existence – here’s a photo of it in happier times, after it was used as the location of a brutal murder of an ex-con. Construction crews have been working on it on and off for years. The utilities have long since been disconnected and a full demo permit has been on file since May 1, 2009 and was finally approved March 31, 2011.

They’ve recently cut down and removed the living trees that stood in the sidewalk, directly in front of the building, on 3rd Avenue (though we’re not sure how legal that tree removal is). They’ve also removed the cornice, built a sidewalk shed and broken many of the windows out. Though, mother nature has already started much of the demo process back in December after the windows were left open for several years, and the building began to crumble in upon itself.
The FDNY checked the building this past weekend and marked it with the final “X” so it’s only a short matter a time before it’s fully demolished.
Once the building is demolished, the local supermarket that is in the adjacent lots will pave it over and have roughly 15 new parking spots. PROGRESS!!! Ugh… at least the didn’t put a McDonald’s in the spot instead…

So the building is coming down for more parking spaces for Foodtown? Wow, that is kind of a shame but I guess its better than a McDonald’s right over in this neck of the woods. It’s too bad that no one could make a solid restaurant work out there. I used to love Short Ribs and remember many fun nights out with family and friends.
