Since Hurricane Sandy hasn’t yet begun to do much of anything in our neck of the woods of Brooklyn, we decided to go out for some delicious lunch with the expectation of our destination being closed.
To our shock, we found that Dunkin’ Donuts is open, despite Starbucks having closed its stores down. DD is never a destination of ours.
We learned that the local Foodtown of Bay Ridge supermarket is closed and that the person making the signs does not appreciate the use of an apostrophe, so the signs read “Sorry were closed.” We are sad to not have been able to go inside to see if the insane pre-storm shoppers bought all of the horseradish off the shelves.
The local Irish bar O’Sullivan’s is open, because who doesn’t love alcohol and being drunk when one might need to duck out of the way from a falling tree.
And here it is, finally! Delicious lox and cream cheese from H & L Bagels.
It was well worth the journey on foot through a wimpy and mediocre storm at best.* Hopefully it will not actually get bad where we are.
*Wimpy and mediocre being used since we’ve seen only minimal rain and winds so far and are approximately 70′ above sea level and not at risk of storm surge and enjoy using run on sentences at times and, yes it has come to this, stir crazy and posting about food.
