Freedom Tower Mural

We came across this mural of NYC, which includes the Freedom Tower and other buildings that have yet to be built, in Sheepshead Bay, Brooklyn.

This mural used to be a 9-11 mural.  We are glad that people are finally beginning to forget and move on – at least when it comes to scenic murals.

Freedom Tower Meets 19th Century Schooner

A replica schooner, but it’s still an old schooner.

Lots of pretty angles and lines.

Shawn Bentley’s Freedom Tower

Proof positive that Shawn Bentley can draw semi-straight lines and call it art way better than we can.

Our lines always get too straight or too irregular.

Freedom Tower April 2013

It’s been approximately two and a half months since we showcased One World Trade, aka the Freedom Tower.  A lot has happened since we last visited.

The base of the southern side is being glassed and the spire is no longer sitting on the north side of the construction site.

In fact, it is scheduled to be topped off today.

The construction elevator that once hung on the outside of the western side of the building has been completely dismantled and the newly installed glass gives the building a Washington Monument sort of old/new construction look to it.  Hopefully this will fade and blend in over time.

Meanwhile the eastern construction elevator still remains tall.

The building is an epic beast in size.

What Happens To Snow On Top Of The Freedom Tower?

We’ve witnessed several pieces of the Freedom Tower be either hoisted up or slowly dropped down below to the ground again, but it is still thrilling to watch.  It is a wonder to see the skill with which the crane operator pulls heavy objects through the tight and windy sky without breaking windows.  Anyway, we watched a big dumpster being pulled up to the top of the Trade Center.

The big kind of dumpster that scares drivers on the highway to the point where nobody with half a brain will follow close behind.

Just look at that reflection in the Freedom Tower…

We wondered what the dumpster was being brought up on a Sunday for.  Then we looked below and saw what the crews were doing with the dumpsters at street level.

wtc snow removal

The construction crews needed to put all of the snow that stuck to the roof of the Freedom Tower into something in order to safely remove it so that they could get back to actually building the building.  It’s not like they could simply shovel it over the side of the building.
