Bay Ridge Double Parking At Its Best

There are two things that a small, but vocal minority of people that live in and/or who frequent Bay Ridge love to do:

  1. Double park their cars.
  2. Complain about receiving tickets for said double parked cars.

They tend to live in a ‘but it’s me’ and ‘I was only double parked for five minutes so it should be okay’ mentality.

It’s due to that small, arrogant and ignorant minority that makes walking, driving and generally living in Bay Ridge to be much more hazardous that other outer-borough neighborhoods.

Take a look at this scene from Friday afternoon along 5th Avenue at 88th Street.

Thank you, automobile drivers who were ‘just there for a few minutes’ to make this photo possible and give the driver of that van trying to squeeze by several minutes of frustration and good use of his horn blowing skills.

Trickle Down Ethics: NYS Senate To Access-A-Ride

In a time where New York State is near penniless to the point that they are cutting funding left and right it is truly a shocker to find an unnecessary and expensive mailing from our New York State Senator Marty Golden.

This multi-color tri-fold extremely heavy paper pamphlet was sent to inform us of the days in 2010 when Alternate Side Parking is NOT IN EFFECT!

The above pamphlet was accompanied by a letter printed on heavy stock paper and read:

“I am happy at this time to provide you with the 2010 New York City Parking Calendar.  I would recommend you keep this either in your glove compartment, or in a readily accessible place, to keep track of the days when alternate side of the street parking rules are suspended.

The enclosed parking calendar features a listing of the 2010 Alternate Side Parking Rules Suspension Calendar for the new year.  The calendar also features an explanation of parking signs as well as important phone numbers to help you navigate parking violations, gather information on street cleaning rules and towed vehicle information.  You can also report transportation related complaints and inquire about construction projects affecting travel in New York City.

In addition to providing this calendar, please know that my office stands ready to assist you in reporting pothole, non-functioning traffic or street lights, and street damage.

To obtain additional copies of this calendar, please call my office at (718) 238-6044 or visit either of my offices located at 7408-5th Avenue and 3604 Quentin Road.  And remember, please visit my website at golden.nysenate.gov for more information on upcoming events, legislation, and my efforts in our neighborhood.

It is an honor to serve as your State Senator.

Sincerely,

Marty Golden

Senator”

Seriously Marty?  Really?  This is what you’re spending State money on!

It cost 25 cents for the postage alone; how much for the printing of the contents of the letter and pamphlets multiplied by how many tens or hundreds of thousands?   Unbelievable!

It’s a true waste of taxpayer dollar and just another example of how there really isn’t someone or some form of State body that oversees how spending is managed; but you’re not alone Marty.  Just take a look at this Access-A-Ride parked with the driver appearing to be laid back and asleep on the side of the Belt Parkway at the rest area under the Verrazano Bridge (pic taken 12/21/09 at 10:45AM and that van was there for at least 25 minutes).

We like to call this a sign of Trickle Down Ethics.

While one might want to say we hope that Marty gets voted out with the rest of the State Legislature, we’ve seen how the ballot only has Marty’s name on it come election day.
