We found this bee pollinating a random squash-type of plant that was growing along the edge of Shore Road Park in Brooklyn, NY.

Right after we snapped this pic the bee that had originally caught our eyes and had been on this bloom came back and stung this one. A small aerial fight ensued and this bee came back to the bloom. Anarchy in the urban wildlife…TOTAL COOLNESS!!!
Here’s a shot of a bee floating around the bloom of a perfectly scented bee balm.

TOTAL COOLNESS!!!
We’ve noticed many new types of visitors to our garden since NYC reversed law and made it legal for beekeepers to do their thing in NYC. While seeing honeybees for the first time in years is cool, seeing this monster is just as cool.

He looked as though he was a bumble bee that was either jacked up on roids or an evolutionary tweak in the bee population that was suffering from gigantism — though he could simply be a much larger species of bee that we’re unfamiliar with.
To put it simply, this bee was HUGE!!! Its body and wingspan were roughly an inch or more in length and width to the point where it made the usually larger bumble bees look tiny. Thankfully, just as larger dogs tend to be more docile, so too was this giant bee. Nothing seemed to bother it… TOTAL COOLNESS!!!
We’re ready for spring to arrive already so that we can sights like this one again.
