Misguided NYC Traffic Camera

We noticed something that looked odd about this traffic camera that is located on Bay Ridge Parkway (75th Street) just off of 3rd Avenue in Brooklyn.

It looked as though it was turned far away from the intersection to the point where it was impossible for it to catch the license plate of cars and trucks that blow through red lights — and thereby give them $50 fines for blowing through the red light.

Sure enough, we were right.  It doesn’t face the busy intersection.

The traffic camera is facing the rear end of a Citibank and doesn’t appear to have a clear shot of the intersection by about 70 to 80 feet.  Unless it has some sort of magical periscope type of camera in it, it’s not doing anyone any good.

We’re no experts, but this doesn’t appear to be or do what it was intended to.

Fisheyed Chase Bank

In exchange of the analog Diana fisheye camera that we received for Christmas (see yellow fisheyed beetle pic) we got some lens attachments for our digital camera.

This is a shot of an old Lincoln Savings bank that was built in the 1930s that is now home to a Chase Bank.

It’s a classic ‘bank’ building.

And with this, we just got hooked on a whole other side of photography and look forward to exploring it more.

The Yellow Fisheyed Beetle

We received a Diana camera for Christmas along with a fisheye lens.

We quickly learned that we’re WAY too digital to deal with a manual film camera; plus we enjoy taking thousands of photos a year and that would break the bank with developing.

Enjoy one of the only good lomography photos we took before deciding to return said Diana camera.
