Chase Bank Closed Memorial Day

The Chase Bank 2010 no nonsense copywriter is back to let us all know that Chase will be closed Memorial Day.

We can only wonder if the 2009 fun copywriter is going around and adding an exclamation point to make it seem more cheerful.

Esperanto Cafe Closes With Irony

We were shocked to learn that the popular Manhattan coffee shop, Esperanto Cafe, on MacDougal Street has closed down due to an apparent fued between cafe owners and the building landlord.

We’ve enjoyed a time or two at this spot.  That said, with it being closed it has left MacDougal Street full of irony…

Hopefully that touch of irony is enough to sooth to soul of the various writers who would go to Esperanto way in the middle of the night to do their thing in a friendly environment.  Other than that we imagine that Alanis Morissette is giddy at the ironic value here.

Psychic Saw It Coming

This past April we found a local psychic that was offering free questions as a way to drive up business.

Surprise.  Surprise!

At least they saw it coming way before their books did.

NYC Snow Summons!

The sight of a gas station closed down should be a good thing — it means that people are no longer driving ancient gas fueled engines, right? — but it is more likely a bad thing.  This is the fourth Bay Ridge gas station to close down in recent years.  This leaves only three gas stations left open where longer lines and less price options will be found.

Our memory believes that it used to be a Mobil gas station at the corner of 81st Street and 3rd Avenue in Brooklyn, but somehow Mobil became Sunoco…go figure.

In any event, the owners of the corner lot where the gas station had been for decades failed to shovel the snow that fell a week ago during snowmageddon and because of this they received the first summons that we’ve ever seen for failure to remove snow.

This leads to a bigger question, will Neil or Gary ever find out that a $350.00 summons is taped to their banner?

$350.00 for being jerks and not clearing the snow off of a long corner sidewalk sounds about right to us.

Brooklyn’s Saddest Bookstore

The sight of a closed down bookstore is a sad one…

A closer look at the inside of the closed bookstore reveals an even sadder sight…

Books that were once high and mighty enough to be held up on display of the front window are now deemed so worthless that they were left behind to rot and become dust.
