We came across this dead bird in our backyard. It was next to our compost bin and we suspect that it must have overdosed on the pill bugs that live there.

And that, is what it is like to live and die in Brooklyn. Poor birdie…
Thankfully, we don’t have to report this lone bird to the Department of Health, for NYC now only wants to know if you have at least ten dead regular birds, or three or more waterbirds.
The title of this post pretty much sums it up, and though we’ve already spoken about how rare seeing a dead squirrel in New York City is, we need to revisit the topic in light of the sight that we saw this past Friday when we walked up a tree-lined block in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn, and saw this odd sight from afar. As we grew closer, we couldn’t believe our eyes…

This dead squirrel appeared to have fallen out from a big 80 foot tall london plane tree. Here’s the view from another angle…

Though we’re not sure if the squirrel died of natural causes and was blown out of the tree onto this Kia, or if the squirrel slipped, fell, and then died on impact upon the Kia, all we know for sure is that there is someone driving around in a Kia who probably has some creepy weird mojo right about now after coming back to their car and finding a dead squirrel on it.
It’s certainly not everyday that one comes upon a sight like this!
The giant weeping willow that graced the Brooklyn Botanic Garden is no more.

Here it is during happier times.

We noticed the death at the beginning of the Blizzard of 2010, so it wasn’t this past storm that took it out.

We know that the garden had tried to save it several years back, but there must not have been anything else that they could have done to keep it up. Gone is the “secret” spot that it created by the tiny bridge that many either laid out on or read a book at.
If you woke up this morning with your loved one thinking it best that you not go into work today and instead just stay home, it was probably best to have listened to them.

You don’t want to end up like Julius Caesar, going to work only to be stabbed to death.
