Department Of Traffic Sign

We happened to spot this old sign on a new-ish gate at the Surrogate’s Court on Adams Street in Brooklyn.

Despite our 30 years in Brooklyn, we don’t recall ever seeing any signs that were issued by the Department of Traffic — or ever even hearing about the Department of Traffic — so we assumed that this old sign was an ancient relic from Roman times (before the end of the Republic), back when centurions used to block the driveways to the courts with their horses and Germanic slaves.

We can only hope that this sign isn’t up because it has been stuck in probate all these years…  ZING!

*We’ve emailed Kevin Walsh from Forgotten NY who informed us the sign is likely a prior to 1975 sign.

So Long B37 Bus

Thanks to the MTA budget cuts, bus and subway lines are being combined in ways that for the most make perfect sense to us.  Due to this, it is bittersweet for us to say goodbye to the B37 bus.

While the B37 bus has been the best way for us to get home from Downtown Brooklyn to Bay Ridge late at night, it has also been at times an unnecessary bus line.  We were the only passengers to start the trip and we counted only eight paying customers (including us) along with one non paying rider as we rode about 95% of the line and saw the MTA essentially flush money down the toilet to operate the bus.

We’re happy to take the soon to be no longer redundant B63 bus for our voyage for the MTA to save the money.

The Martin Lawrenceification Of NYC

Seeing the once standard catchphrase of Martin Lawrence painted on the side of a building once in Downtown Brooklyn made us go, “Hey, that’s cool.”  Seeing it for a second time — this time in Chelsea, Manhattan — is making us feel as though we are entering a new world order.

Move over gentrification — we are now in the burgeoning days of Martin Lawrenceification!
