Mother Nature Reclaiming Abandoned Gas Station

We have some semi-good news to report.  The abandoned Shell gas station on 4th Avenue & 90th Street — one of the many abandoned gas stations that dot Brooklyn — is showing signs of life.

A butterfly bush has sprouted in the cracks and is blooming.

So it’s good news if you’re a fan of knowing that invasive plant species can and will take over should humanity depart Brooklyn overnight.  It’s also a hand sliding from the upper neck to the chin of mother nature at those who try and fail to start seedlings for their garden.

Henry Harde’s Face Lift

One of Bay Ridge’s cough:cough Fort Hamilton’s oldest businesses received a face lift recently.

We took for granted the old yellow “liquors” sign that once hung, but we really like the new touch of purple the Harde? sisters/proprietors went with.

And now that we write this we’re slightly blown away at the realization that we frequent the same liquor store that our grandfather used to frequent on special occasions in the 1930s.

Dee & Dee’s Grand Opening In Bay Ridge

Thank goodness Dee & Dee has returned to Bay Ridge in the form of D II at the old Fort Hamilton Post Office.

Wearing an improperly sized white t-shirt and a mismatched pair of socks that were supposed to match while trying on a pair of shorts that cost $3.99 has never felt more comfortable.

P.S. 264 Update With A Pun

Yesterday we passed Brooklyn’s under construction P.S. 264 site and things are looking up!*

*We must apologize to all of our typical readers out there for that pun, we hate puns as well.  Reporters, we hope that you all enjoyed a great big belly laugh over that pun, because that pun was for you — for whatever odd reason, it seems that only folks who work in journalism enjoy a good pun.

Dee & Dee Coming To Bay Ridge

Dee & Dee, the dirty little secret of many a New Yorker due to their cheap prices on irregular sized items is coming to Fort Hamilton Bay Ridge.

Construction has been happening at the old Fort Hamilton Post Office building for several weeks now and just this past week construction crews have ripped the original beautiful facade off of the entire first floor.

We cannot wait to have this store open so that we will be able to see much more people walking around with irregular shaped t-shirts that balloon up on one side while walking around in ankle socks that come up to their knees.
