Verrazanocolapse

This is what the sunset looked like on December 20th at the Verrazano Bridge.

The sun sets pretty much the same on the winter solstice, which means that if someone puts a plaque on the bridge stating that the world is going to end in the year 5087, the future’s version of Nicholas Cage is going to have one heck of an apocalyptic hit film on his hands.

Verrazano Bridge At Dusk

This is a fine example of the Narrows and the Verrazano Bridge at dusk, with a plane heading in for a landing at LaGuardia in the sky.

It’s a mighty fine day.

Owl’s Head Park Renovated

We strolled through Brooklyn’s Owl’s Head Park recently and noticed that the Parks Department has finally completed the renovations of the patio on top of the park’s moraine.

Though the patio looks really nice, it still doesn’t offer much of a view…

Nothing says wonderful view of Manhattan’s skyline or the Verrazano Bridge (or even the Owl’s Head Poop Plant) like a thicket of overgrown trees and shrubbery obscuring any and all view from the park’s moraine.

Old Man In The Sky Over Brooklyn

We’ve always found the Verrazano Bridge to be a bridge of two bridges.  In Staten Island, the tower seems to be far out in the water and isn’t much visible when on the ground, but in Brooklyn, the tower seems to be on top of everyone and watching over us.

It’s like an old man in the sky.

Crack Houses Gone, Bridge View In

It took nearly a month of construction to dismantle the double lot on 93rd Street in Bay Ridge that housed the Bay Ridge Crack House.

We’ve seen similar old houses in the neighborhood taken down in one day, hopefully the relatively snail pace means that much of the old houses were taken down in a way that allows much of the wood to be salvaged into another structure.

In any event, several properties on the north end of 93rd Street can now lay claim to having a  view of the Verrazano Bridge.

Which is more than the Bridgeview Diner can say…
